There are many different tools and devices that you as a homeowner need to use to keep your home in good shape, and many of them come with risks if not used properly. While this might not be the first thing that comes to your mind, ladders are among the deadliest things in your home. Why is that? Because whenever you have a fall from more than 6 feet above the ground, the chance of serious injury or death is very high.

So, do you know what the proper way to use a ladder is? You might be surprised at how many things you need to keep in mind to ensure you’re using the ladder in the safest way possible.

It is very important to always keep at least 3 points of contact with the ladder. That means your two feet and at least one hand should be on the ladder at all times unless you have some type of harness that connects you to the ladder. You also should avoid reaching out too far to either side of the ladder. If you can’t reach something, it is much safer to climb down, move the ladder over, and then climb back up again.
