When you’re watching a thunderstorm roll into the area where you live, do you get nervous? While fear of lightning might be more of an issue when you are young, there are some dangers inherent with lightning strikes that you should be aware of. While lightning hitting people is fairly rare, taller objects run a higher risk of being hit. If your home is hit, it could be seriously damaged, even burn to the ground, but even if it isn’t a direct hit, you could still suffer damage. A tree or pole near your home being hit could fall on your house, or catch on fire which could spread to your home. If lightning were to hit the electrical grid near you, a power surge could damage electronics in your home, which is why having valuable electronics plugged into a surge protector is a good idea. Also, you should avoid talking on a landline telephone while there is a lightning storm in the area.
